humane dog training

Our Core Values

Our Karen Pryor Academy pledge to utilize training methods that are kind, humane & scientifically proven.

Our Karen Pryor Academy Pledge

  • We guarantee that our training will always utilize force-free principles & techniques that are consistent with the Karen Pryor Academy of Animal Training and Behaviour (KPA).

  • Our training sessions will never evoke fear, utilize punishment or aversive tools (prong collars, e-collars, choke collars, leash corrections).

  • Aversive tools & training methods are detrimental to your dog's well-being and may cause more severe behavioural issues in the long term (aggression, extreme fear).

  • Well-being of our clients - we prioritize the physical & emotional well being of the dog and consider underlying factors to assess behaviour (exercise, diet, illness, pain, mental stimulation).

  • We use positive reinforcement with both our canine AND human clients to ensure learning is fun and enjoyable. We are judgement free & here to provide support to help clients reach their training goals.

  • Science Based Behaviour Modification - we will always prioritize setting the dog up for success by avoiding putting them in uncomfortable situations, & by instead actively changing their emotional response to their triggers by building positive associations.

  • We focus on teaching the dog alternative behaviours to replace undesirable ones, so they understand how we prefer them to behave in real life situations.
